Who are we?

Growing Old Disgracefully is an older women’s network. We come together to have fun, to share our experiences and knowledge, to learn from each other, and to grow together in a safe and non-judgemental environment.

Groups

All over the UK, women are meeting to participate in activities, seize new opportunities and forge new friendships. We call these meetings Growing Old Disgracefully Groups! There are currently active groups all over the UK and there’s sure to be one near you. Check with us to see where your nearest group meets. If you would like to begin a new group, we’re here to help. Our team offers help, support and even financial assistance to those starting new groups.

the aim of the network is to :

  • To make the most of the rest of our lives
  • To meet like minded women and make new friends
  • To counter stereotypes of older women
  • To encourage positive attitudes to ageing
  • To share laughter and a sense of fun
  • To extend our horizons
  • To support each other

What we do

Growing Old Disgracefully is an older women's network where members create most of their own events and activities.

these inlcude:

  • Talking, laughing and singing
  • Reading, writing and learning
  • Walking, dancing and yoga
  • Discussions and debates
  • Crafts of every description
  • Visits to interesting places
  • Sailing, ballooning and going on adventures!

Cyber Goddies

At Growing Old Disgracefully, we understand it’s not always possible to attend group meetings. That’s why we introduced our Cyber Goddies group! This is an online environment where members can meet up on a monthly basis to catch up with friends and discuss upcoming events. Many women find this a useful service with which to keep in touch. If you would like to join the Cyber Goddies group, please visit its dedicated web page here.

We also organise workshops on subjects both serious and light-hearted.

for example:

  • Creative writing
  • Wobby voices
  • Bellydancing
  • Older women’s lives
  • Disgraceful to the end
  • Body language
  • When I say “No” I feel guilty
  • A dead good funeral
  • Assertiveness versus aggression
  • Art for fun
  • Writing one’s life story
  • Making time for yourself
  • The games we play
  • So just what us ‘disgraceful’?

There is never any obligation to join in anything, but it is always worth a try. You can suggest or organise your own activities as well!
